Radio North Angus, the voluntary organisation that operates an Independent Local Radio Station based within Arbroath Infirmary, and hospital broadcasting services at Stracathro Hospital and Forfar Infirmary, is set to commence transmissions at Brechin Infirmary
The Radio Authority, and Tayside Primary Care NHS Trust, have granted approval for a transmitter to be located within the premises, that will act as a relay of the Independent Local Radio Station at Arbroath.
In February, the signal strength of the Arbroath Station was increased from 25 to 200 watts, creating a wider field of transmissions across Angus.
Located at the highest position in Brechin, the Infirmary is in a ideal situation for the signal to be received on 96.6FM, and re-broadcast on 87.7FM, which is the wavelength usually reserved for hospital radio use.
In effect, listeners will be able to enjoy the 16 hour per day service which is to be increased to 24hours in the near future. The wide ranging, music-based programming is conducted by over 50 presenters, thus ensuring a variety of personalities, with information being broadcast on behalf of health, welfare, voluntary organisations and educational establishments.
A similar relay was installed at Stracathro Hospital in the Spring, that continue to be very popular with patients, and it is anticipated that this will be repeated.
Transmissions, due to commence on Friday 1 September at 7.40am with Cereal Sounds presented by Mark Masson, will supplement fortnightly record services that have been conducted in the Annexe since 1984.
