Radio North Angus received a substantial donation from the League of Friends of Sunnyside Royal Hospital and Montrose Infirmary to assist to meet the costs of establishing a new radio station in Montrose Infirmary.
At a ceremony held in Montrose Royal Infirmary on Friday 23 June, Mrs Eileen Brymer, Committee Member accepted a cheque for £500.
RNA is a voluntary organisation that operates an Independent Local Radio Station based within Arbroath Infirmary, along with Hospital Radio Stations at Stracathro Hospital and Forfar Infirmary.
A licence has been issued by the Radio Authority, which regulates Independent Local Radio, that will allow the new station to broadcast on 87.7 FM, in a similar manner presently utilised by the Stracathro station, and, formerly, the Arbroath station, which broadcasts on 96.6 FM, for 16 hours per day, having been awarded the Local Radio Licence, in 1998.
The NHS has allocated accommodation within the Infirmary that is currently being converted into studio premises, and it is intended to commence transmissions within the next few months. Daily programmes will be mainly music-based, designed to cater for diverse tastes, and include news, and information on health matters, welfare, and the local area.
The organisers are very appreciative of the support of the League of Friends, which has previously supported the in-house Service that has provided entertainment over the past 15 years.
Anyone with an interest in joining RNA, or who would wish information broadcast, is invited to contact the Honorary Secretary:
